The Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics renews Luciano Cascione's mandate as SIB Group leader at the IOR

Institutional Communication Service

The SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics is an internationally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to biological and biomedical data science. It is present in the main academic institutions of Switzerland and leads numerous national and international projects with a major impact on life science research and health. SIB federates the Swiss bioinformatics community of some 800 scientists, encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing. It also cooperates with national and international institutions on research infrastructure matters.

At the IOR, the SIB is represented by the Bioinformatics Core Unit (BCU), directed by Luciano Cascione, whose mandate has been renewed for the next four years. The BCU’s mission is to provide computational and statistical services for cancer research, with a major emphasis on lymphomas. The group also develop novel bioinformatics projects that can complement and, in many cases, drive biologic research.

In addition to support the research groups at the IOR, Luciano Cascione’s group develops innovative data analysis tools, visualization software and database resources for genomic and clinical research in collaboration with the IELSG, University of Verona, University of Parma and the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics.
